Theme song: It depends on my mood. I can go from one extreme to other. Right now the ratchet side (yeah, I have one) of me loves Beyonce’s Formation. I also love Tamala Mann’s This Place. Some days that song gives me that extra push I need.
How are you living your “Ideal Life”?
I’m living my ideal life by being unapologetically me. I’ve learned to be happy with who I am. I can’t really worry about what others may think of me or who they think I should be. It took me a while to get to this point but thank God I’m finally here.
Describe your journey
I was born and raised in Mobile, AL in a single parent home. After high school I attended the University of Alabama. After attending mostly black schools growing up, I was in for a culture shock when I got to Tuscaloosa. However, I feel like my college experience prepared me for what I was about to take on in the corporate world. I work in a very male dominated field which can be difficult at times, but I have learned to maneuver my way through without losing myself. Fifteen years and three companies later, I think I have finally found my footing. Outside of the corporate world, I blog as an escape from my structured work life. I could probably blog about more serious issues but that wouldn’t provide the escape I need from my already hectic world. So, I choose to blog about fashion and home interiors. And I will continue to do so, unapologetically.
What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned?
I would say the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that I can’t do it all. Sometimes it’s okay to ask for a little help.
What challenges did you have to overcome?
I’m a borderline hermit. So, my biggest challenge is doing the necessary networking to advance my career and my blog. I have worked really hard on coming out of my shell. It has definitely not been easy but it is something I know I have to do.
What is your morning routine?
I’m not a morning person, so it takes me a minute to get going in the morning. I start out by letting the dog out. Once I have a little peace and quiet, I read my morning devotionals. I would like to say I work out, but that has not made it into the routine. I shower and dress then head to the office.
What motivates you?
I would say my family motivates me. I think my mom did an awesome job raising me alone, and I refuse to let her down.
What would you share with those aspiring to create and live their “Ideal Life”?
I would suggest being your authentic self. You can’t have an “ideal life” if you aren’t being truthful about who you are. Also, if there is something you want don’t sit back and wait for someone to hand it to you. Make it happen.
What’s next for you?
I have a few things in the fire right now. I’m working to move to the next level career wise and I’m continuing to build my blog/brand.
